It was the day of departure. Las Palmas turned on the sun in all her glory. The streets were in fact lined with people to see the sail boats off. We being us of course, decided to watch the fleet as well. I took the opportunity to try out my new camera which was not such a success but you get a feel for the spectacle none the less. Keep an eye out for the Armas Ferry. Click here for a view of the start line and our ship's Doctor about to embark with Compromise in the background. Reversing was effortless with no boats in the marina.
As we went out the Canary boats returning honked at and cheered at us pointing at their watches. We left one boat behind us who had a crew member with a foot injury. They were planning to set off in a few days. Be-Bop-A-Lula would be involved in some Drama at a later date but boy we were in for a bit ourselves.
